e-learning 2.0: All You Need To Know

While this article from Read/WriteWeb may not really be "All You Need to Know" as its title suggests, it is still a good introduction to some of the popular sites out there in the arena of "e-learning 2.0,"  which is really just another term for "Web 2.0"-style applications (participatory, collaborative, social) being applied in academic settings.

The author is not very friendly towards traditional Learning Management Systems such as Blackboard, using phrases like "often cumbersome and expensive," "too often driven by the needs of the institution rather than the individual learner," "generally seen as clunky and difficult to use," and so on.

I think that, in one sense, no tool is perfect, and that we have to make the best use of the tools that we have, but I also agree with the statement in the concluding paragraph that the "current era of the Web is all about two-way communication, collaboration and 'read/write'; and the classroom is an ideal place to utilize these technologies."
