Learning Commons Open
For those who haven't visited yet, the new Learning Commons in D. H. Hill Library is now officially open! Check out the web page (http://www.lib.ncsu.edu/learningcommons) for an overview, but you should really come and use the space to fully understand it's potential for supporting teaching and learning.
We've seen lots of students, facultys, and staff using the Learning Commons since opening day (3/12). All of our technologies are getting plenty of use and attention, but one of the unexpected "hits" so far (in my opinion, based on my observations) are the 8 rolling dry-erase boards scattered around the Commons.
So far, I've seen them used as writing boards by faculty and tutors teaching small groups at tables, as workspace by study groups working out problems as a team, as message boards by students trying to locate one another, and as privacy screens by groups and individuals wanting some space of their own.
We've had some great feedback posted to our discussion board on the Commons homepage so far. Please feel free to post your thoughts on that forum or right here, and I hope you enjoy the new space.
