Using Radio and TV for Web Content

This might seem obvious, but as I was driving in this morning I realized how much valuable information is produced by public broadcasting companies and put on the Web for free.  NPR and PBS frequently produce supplemental materials for their stories and put them online.  How many times have you heard, "For a further study of ??? visit our website at npr.org."

This morning there was a story about immigration and the announcer referred to an online resource for studying immigration patterns.

This is hardly the most comprehensive study of immigration policy, but it is a nice little interactive application that could easily be used in an educational setting...and it's FREE...and I DIDN'T HAVE TO MAKE IT!

Of course items on the Web need to be checked for accessibility.  Unfortunately, this app does not seem to be accessible so a little extra work would need to be done for the end user, but it's not that difficult.

NPR also makes almost all (if not all) of their broadcasts available to listen to online as well.  So if there was a great story or interview you want to use, just send your students there to listen.
