NCSU SAF Student Chapter takes unconventional way to National Convention

NCSU Quiz Bowl TeamSaturday morning was an unusually early start for members of the NCSU Student Chapter of the Society of American Foresters who were participating in the annual Wilderness Leadership Trip and SAF National Convention. This year, the Convention was in Orlando, Florida, which led the group on a canoe trip and adventures down on the Suwanee River. Mickey & Minnie joined later.

An On-Course Education

While our men's and women's golf teams will certainly feel at home at Centennial Campus' Lonnie Poole Golf Course, other NC State faculty and students- including those who don't play golf - plan to hit the links as well, as the course grows into its role as an outdoor classroom and "living lab."  Turfgrass science undergrads will venture to LPGC for field labs, while graduate students tend to research projects. Professional golf management majors in one of only 20 PGA-accredited programs will receive hands-on, real-world business experience as well.

NC State Natural Resources Course Examines Sustainability in Turkey

Traveling 4,061 kilometers by bus, the NR350 course, entitled Sustainable Use of Natural Resources in Turkey, included almost that number of contrasts and surprises.[Read More]

Dr. Joe Denig, professor in NC State's Department of Wood and Paper Science and Director of Wood Products for NC Cooperative Extension, traveled to Kosovo as part of a Uniited States Aid to International Development (USAID) trip. The goal of the trip was to aid the growth and sustainability of the Kosovan wood products industry and to bring economic benefit to the country. During his visit, Dr. Denig consulted at numerous manufacturing sites and gave workshops at the University of Prishtina.[Read More]

Venditti Visits South Africa as Fulbright Specialist

Dr. Richard Venditti, an associate professor in NC State's Department of Wood and Paper Science,  traveled to South Africa through the Fulbright Specialists Program. During his visit, Dr. Venditti gave presentations about academic programs and research activities at NC State, consulted with representatives of industry, academic and research groups and laid the groundwork for potential research and teaching collaborations with industry and academic institutions in South Africa. [Read More]
