Math Placement E-mail
NC State University uses scores from either the SAT Mathematics
Level 2 Subject Test or the NC State Online Mathematics Skills Test to determine
which math course is most appropriate for each student. THE
DEADLINE FOR COMPLETION OF EITHER EXAM IS JUNE 16TH.
If you took the SAT Mathematics Level 2, please make sure you requested that
the College Board send your score report to NC State (our institution code is
#5496). We are unable to accept score reports sent by applicants or reported on
high school transcripts.
If you will not complete the SAT Mathematics Level 2 test by June 16th, you
should take the online math skills test, which is free of charge. This test is
available at: www.webassign.net/ncsu/math.html.
You must have your Unity ID and password to login and take the test. You can
login to WolfPAW (http://wolfpaw.ncsu.edu) to find your Unity
ID and links with information about your default password. If you are unable to
login to the test using your Unity ID and password, please contact the NC State
University Help Desk, (919) 515-HELP, for assistance.
Please be prepared to complete the online test once you
login. You will not be able to exit the test and return to finish at a later
time. It is imperative that you take the test within the estimated time
frame and without assistance from others. Using other means that may falsely
inflate your score could result in your placement in an incorrect math course
and academic difficulty at NC State. At the end of the test, you will be
presented with your score and notified of the math course that is most
appropriate for you based on that score.
You should speak with your adviser at orientation if you feel that your
transfer credit, SAT II, or AP scores should be reviewed in order to change your
initial math placement. Please bring documentation of your scores in case the
scores have not been received by your orientation date. While the official
information will be sent directly to Undergraduate Admissions and Registration
and Records, having an unofficial copy at orientation can help with your math
(or other subject) placement.
·Questions about the NC State Online Mathematics Skills Test should be
directed to the math department, specifically Dr. Harvey Charlton (charlton@ncsu.edu) or Dr. John Griggs jrgriggs@ncsu.edu. General and
transfer questions about math placement should be directed to Dr. Harvey
Charlton at (919) 513-2291, charlton@ncsu.edu.
·Questions about math requirements for your degree or other general advising
questions can be directed to Ask the Pack. You will
receive an answer from an adviser within 24-48 hours.
