For the third consecutive year, the FYC Village is looking for students to leave their mark on campus! We are looking for new freshmen with some artistic ability (either verbal or visual) to submit their creative works to the FYC Wolfpack Welcome Week committee!
There are two options for the mural competition:
OPTION 1--VISUAL*:
Here’s your chance to add to the walls of Tucker Residence Hall. Interested students must submit the following materials (no later than August 7th, 2009) to be considered for the contest:
Two copies of your design (one in color & one in b/w) on a 8 ½ X 11 paper that incorporates events, meanings, and/or translations of Three Cups of Tea (the 2009 Summer Reading book)
A written meaning to your mural (why did you choose to represent the mural the way you did?)
A list of paint colors you would need to complete your mural should you win the contest.
*The contest winner must choose 2 or 3 friends/Village residents to help complete the mural, as well as determine a “to be completed by date” with the Housing Assistant Director.
OPTION 2--VERBAL:
We recognize that not everyone is visually artistic and would like to encourage students who are interested to submit a 2-page description of what your mural would look like if you were to draw it out. (Unfortunately, students who submit a literal interpretation only will not be considered for the mural contest, but will be able to attend “Pennies with a Purpose” where the winning entry will be announced).
Entries can be mailed or emailed to:
Michelle Crossley First Year College Campus Box 7925 Raleigh, NC 27695-7925
ALL ENTRANTS will be invited to “Pennies with a Purpose” on Monday, August 17th from 2-3 p.m. in rooms 104/106 FYC Commons to enjoy tea and sweets. Students are asked to bring as many pennies as possible to the event that will be donated to the Central Asia Institute.
More details of the event will be announced by the week of August 10th 2009.
Do you want to attend “Pennies with a Purpose” even though you didn’t submit an entry? Please email Michelle at michelle_crossley@ncsu.edu in order to be put on the wait-list.
