Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Green lacewing (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae), the perfect insect for St. Patrick's Day. Photo captured by jciv.

The green lacewings, they're dancing about,
And the winter, it isn't so stout.
Soon stalked eggs will hatch
In our vegetable patch,
And the aphids will suffer throughout!

Well, it's not exactly a haiku, but today is St. Patrick's Day, so why not something a little more Irish!

The Hexapod Haiku Challenge is still open for entries (until this Friday). We've received haiku from as far away as Poland, Romania, U.K., Japan, and the Philippines, so far, as well as plenty of entries from within - and across - the U.S.A. Maybe next year we'll have to have a limerick challenge...
