Alex did her speech on raising the cigarett tax. She did a god job of illustrating a clear need for action in her speech because she pointed out statistics and how these things were hurting everyone. One of the statistics was that over 24,600 students beome daily smokers per day. Some of the things she used to express tis need is that money could go to kids in public schools. She also said that it could help save the state money, and help make everyone healthier, as well as save the people who stop smoking money.
She stated specific actions that could be taken to handle this. She stated that NC STATE was going to be the hist of the new Truth.com commercial. She state the time, date and location and said that could come out and support this commercial. Us being there would show that we are passionate about this issue and that we could st examples for other teenagers.
A phrase that Alex focused on was "smoking kills". Although a simple phrase, it makes a very big impact on her speech in my eyes. She made me think about that, and made it stand out as an isue that needs to be solved immediately because, once again SMOKING=KILLS!!!!

Madi spoke on the need for us to get the tax bracet changed to 50/50. She did a good job of illustrating the need for change. She pointed out that our miney goes to people on welfare for example. It was pointed out that the problem was not that people were on welfare, but the fact that we were paying for these people to be o welfare and they spend their money on drugs and what not.
Her actions were also obviously pointed out. She thought that we should change the tax distribution to 50/50, where 50% of the taxes that we give will go to wherever the government chooses for it to go to and the other 50% will go to whatever we choose. She said we would all go and meet with the treasurer in the white house, and would convince her that this is better than the current idea. This would then get all of our voices heard.
This was a good speech in my opinion because she pointed out everything that needed to be done and effectively told us how we would get it done. Another thing i liked about her speech was that it had a catchy phrase that stuck with me. The phrase she used was "We elect our representatives, but do they really represent what we want?", and this was good becuase it is really something to think about.

I thought that I illustrated a clear need for action by reviewing the negative effects that violence in the media has on youth. I think that the actions that I proposed were very specific. I feel that the audience had a good sense of what they could do to take action. I tried to use factual evidence and I wanted to make them feel like they could really make a difference. I felt that if the audience felt that they could make a difference they would be more likely to act. I feel that my speech was a little choppy. I don't think that it was very fluid. I hope that I energized the audience. I really just wanted them to feel like they could make a difference.

Kristin's speech on Obesity defines clear problems and then states possible solutions to the problems. She uses a persuasive strategy by giving appealing reasons why you shouldn't be obese. In her speech when she stated, "I want you to help lower the percentage of obese people in the world," I was compelled to take action. Kristin's over all use of linguistic strategies was great due to the clarity of her speech and the over all rhythm of it. Finally even though the class was half asleep due to the early class time, Kristin energized them with her moving speech. All in all this was a great speech.

In my speech on why you should by a Toyota Tundra I stated that after your purchase of the vehicle the crime rate in your area would be lowered. My actions in my speech were very specific and the audience knew exactly what they had to do to fix my problem. I think that even though my persuasive strategy was slightly comical it got the message across. My linguistic strategy was okay, I think in this portion of a speech everyone can always improve. After my speech was over I receive a slight bit of laughter, which I perceived as an energized and engaged audience. In my opinion I think this was my best speech.

I think that Alex did a good job on her speech. She restated her points from her last speech but I think she was a little nervous in her delivery in the beginning of her speech. She stated the amount of children that become smokers and that the tax on cigarettes should be raised. I think that she stated everything in a great way and she got that motivation across.
Alex's entire speech showed her support of raising the taxes and it really showed. There seemed to be passion in her topic and that made everyone pay attention to the facts of her speech.

Shakira did an excellent job on her speech about company relocation. She was against companies moving from the United States to foreign countries. I think that the speech was well organized and she stated her points again. She did a wonderful job of reviewing her previous speech and letting us know more details of why we support not wanting companies to relocate.
Shakira made a valuable point when she stated that Americans should not have to move overseas to live a comfortable life. Company relocation causes a raise in taxes and Shakira stressed the fact that company relocation is not an advantage for the citizens of the United States.

Topic: Boycott Chinese Made Toys
Adeia gave information on chinese toys and convinced us that the toys did have lead in them. She wanted us to take action with her against the unsafe toys and protest at a local Toys R Us. She had information on the recalls over the past year from China. Her presentation was good and If I was gonna be here on the date of her boycott I would come out. Good Job with eye contact and confidence in her speech.
