YouTube working with Thailand

YouTube Inc. is working with government officials in Thailand to
reinstate access to the popular video-sharing Web site after officials
blocked it because of a video that ridiculed the country's popular
king.

The incident has sparked widespread indignation in
Thailand, where the crime of lèse-majesté, or offending the monarchy,
is taken seriously. Last week, a 57-year old Swiss national in Thailand
was given a 10-year jail sentence for defacing posters of the king with
spray paint.  Read more

Verizon rejected Apple iPhone deal

Verizon Wireless, the No. 2 U.S. cellphone
carrier, passed on the chance to be the exclusive distributor of the iPhone almost two years ago, balking at Apple's rich financial terms
and other demands.

Among other things, Apple wanted a percentage of
the monthly cellphone fees, say over how and where iPhones could be
sold and control of the relationship with iPhone customers, said Jim
Gerace, a Verizon Wireless vice president. "We said no. We have nothing
bad to say about the Apple iPhone. We just couldn't reach a deal that
was mutually beneficial."

Verizon's decision to pull the plug on talks
sent Apple into the waiting arms of Cingular, which will be the
exclusive U.S. carrier for the iPhone. The multifunction device is
expected to ship in June and cost about $500. You can also visit microsoft zune blog if you are interested in knowing the details.

Career Expo

Out of the many organizations at the career expo, UNC School of Medicine stood out the most to me.  My primary interest for my future plans is to attend medical school preferably at UNC.  A unique characteristic I like about UNC is that they want to improve the health of North Carolinians and others whom they serve, they want to accomplish this by achieving excellence and providing leadership in the interrelated areas of patient care, education, and research.  The vision of UNC is to be the nations leading public school of medicine.

When I approached the recruiter, I presented my thirty-second elevator speech, I must admit I was a bit nervous but after I saw that she was interested in what I had to say I felt much more comfortable continuing on with our conversation. She seemed to be very attentive which gave me more confidence.  During my discussion with the recruiter I learned about all the requirements involved with getting into their medical school, getting an internship with them, etc.  My career goals for the future primarily meet the criteria of this organization.

UNC School of Medicine have specific requirements that need to be met in order to get into their medical school or possibly get an internship with them.  The recruiter for UNC School of Medicine explained the requirements for their organizations were as follows, students need biology including at least one course with a lab, she recommended that I take a course in cell and molecular biology or genetics, a general and organic chemistry, a semester of biochemistry, general physics with labs and courses in English.  A bachelor?s degree is required for admission.  The recruiter also explained to me the importance of the medical college admission test.  When hiring for entry-level positions they look for someone with skills in the lab, computer skills, etc.

The recruiter explained how a medical student must acquire substantial competence in principle and the facts of all of the curriculums required basic sciences, the student must understand and appreciate the principles and practice of all of the basic fields of clinical medicine.  The recruiter also made it a point to mention that a medical student must be of sufficient emotional health to utilize fully his or her intellectual ability, exercise good judgment, complete patient care promptly.  The recruiter kind of made this statement seem like a disclaimer; because the medical profession is governed by the ethical principles and by the state and federal laws, a medical student must have the capacity to learn, and understand these values and laws to perform within their guidelines.

Overall I learned a lot of important information from the UNC School of Medicine recruiter.  At the end of my little session with her I really felt good about myself like I accomplished so much being a freshman.  Hopefully at the end of my 4 years at NC State I will be continuing on with my college career at UNC School of Medicine.  I feel as though the recruiter gave me a lot of insightful information that can help me get into UNC School of Medicine, from the course I need to take to preparing for the MCAT.
