What I took from Da's speech
When i went to listen to Da Chen speak in the RBC Center, he said many things which caught my attention and really made me think. His shories which he told were things that I really needed to hear. One of the things he said that really caught my attention was that by simply being here, we have already won the big battle. For us to have even been born was a big accomplishment and for our whole life we simply celebrate. This his me because I have never thought about life in that way. I have always worried about my life because I haven't figured out what I want to be yet. Now, I have a completly different view and although I still have to work hard, I know that the hardest part has already been completed.
Another part of Chen's speech which stood out to me was when he was telling about when him and his friends wanted to go see a movie. The only way they could see the movie was to walk three miles to the theater. When i think about that, I realize that a greatly take for granted that I live in America. The movie wasn't the only thing he said that made me think this but it was the biggest. The fact that his family couldn't even take him because they can't afford a car. Also, that move was the only thing he was able to do all year because he did not have anymore money. When I think about that, it really makes me appreciate tha fact that I am able to go out with my friends pretty regularly. For the past nine months, I went out with my girlfriend almoste every night. I have really been taking that for granted but now I see how lucky I was to be able to do that. Now I will value this privlege more because I know that I am lucky.
The third part of Chen's speech which really caught my attention was when he spoke about his parents passing away but he knew that they would be proud of him. I think many people really take advantage of their parents and do not really apreciate them. Being away from my parents now makes me realize how great they were to me and how much I really need them. Sometimes people think their parents are invincible and they will always be there to help but the fact is that they will not always be around. I now realize that I need to be the best I can to make them proud because they have done so much for me. I will work hard and be honest with them so that my time with them will be the best that it can and I will know that I did everything I could to live up to my potential so I do not dissapoint them.
The values that I have chosen to incloude in my circle of life project are simple. I will include being honest to my family and friends as well as gaining a good education so that I will be able to support a family. These are a couple of things which are very important in life. Family and friends will always be there for you so you need to be there for them and respect them. Education is so important in todays society. Without a good education, jobs are hard to come by and good jobs are key to a successful life. Another thing I will include is to respect my body and mind. I only get one for my life and I will not disrespect it with drugs or any other harmful substances.
