Fantasy Sports Wk 10

Stiff Daddy: Stl presents a favorable matchup for both Brees and Bush, however rolling the dice with two Seahawks WR could be costly. It might prove to be better if you select an outsider. Another chancy matchup would be Winslow against a stiff Pittsburgh defense. They trounced the Ravens and will continue to make offenses work hard for their yards. Suggestions: Lee Evans @ Miami for WR, Olsen @ Oak for TE Drnkn pirate hookers: Rivers has been horrible this season and against the colts it could only get worse. QB help is coming in the future as SD plays some weak teams later on in the season. Suggestions: Switch Brown for Moss due to the bye, and drop Pennington in favor of a stronger QB. Ballin: You have been skating by on the magic carpet of Sir Thomas Brady and its time for a change. The bye wk brings troubles at the QB position for you as well as a stiff Dallas defense for your NYG RB. Suggestions: Pick up JP Losman for a matchup against the wk defense of the dolphins. Also you need a Def player and Ray Lewis is your man, he will rack up tackles against a pass hungry Bengals team that should throw the ball right in front of him.. Look for a INT from the big man. XoXo: Holes at WR and TE can be fixed with a little bench filling. Mr. Vrabel is on a bye this wk and will need to have someone picked up to help out. Suggestions: Burress for Stallworth and Clark for Stevens. Drop Stevens in favor of a D player like Julian Peterson. The Darkness: Injuries to other RB will help out dramatically this wk. Points are coming in waves at the RB position and you will smile. The only question mark is the QB position as you are unsure which QB is going to come out and play for you. If Jackson is hurt look for Chatman as a good replacement. Suggestions: If you can jump on it before others, Losman might be a lock for a pick and play this week. Miami sucks and will continue to suck. Killer Starz: Jets being on bye this wk leaves you with two necessary holes to fill. If Harrison practices this wk insert him for the Cotchery bye, however you might consider Santonio Holmes at WR against the Browns Def. RB is going to be difficult as you don?t wanna start both of the RB for a shitty Oakland squad. Suggestions: Holmes at WR for Cotchery and maybe Droughns or Betts for RB.

Halloween

So i know it has been a long while since i last updated the blog. But in the spirit of halloween how can i not? I mean with random people walking around in costumes on college campus you can't help but feel the need to report on some of the sights. First off nothing beats seeing Abe Lincoln riding a bicycle down the street. I mean this guy top hat and all was hilarious. Random green martians were littering hillsborough st. also. All for some holiday created by the candy corporations to make money. I know it is nice for kids to go around and pick up candy from door to door, but then they end up having to go to the dentist and pay loads of cash to get cavities filled. Once you get older the only fun thing to do is get drunk and parade up and down the street and for what? Who knows? Yes i did it twice but i guess i've learned that it really isn't anything special. So go out and enjoy halloween all of you young kids getting candy and older kids getting wasted for the first time in college looking for fun.. You will outgrow both soon but enjoy it while it lasts.

One of the luxuries of working for Autozone as a commercial driver, is the availability of blog topics that one can find just by driving around.  If not for the daily exposure to these items, i probably would just pass them by and move on, but after seeing them day in and day out in Cary i can't help but get annoyed.  Today i have decided to discuss the "Baby on Board" window hangers.  What purpose do they really serve.  Yes i know that some of them are there to protect the young babys' eyes, but other than that what are they good for?  Will a driver avoid a wreck more, or slam on the brakes harder?  No.. These signs are about as useful as an "explosive" sign on a tanker truck.  People understand that they shouldn't wreck into teh car, but they sure as hell are not going to stop harder.  Yes i know people are saying "but they will drive more caustious when they see the car", not here in Cary they will not.  People prance around in their high end cars, like they run the world and don't pay attention to any motorist (with or without the window hangers).  I guess all i can say is if you are using them to protect your children's eyes good for you... if you are trying to protect your baby, its not gonna help.

Super Bowl in London!????

London Superbowl

According to ESPN as of yesterday, commissioner Roger Goodell is entertaining ideas of hosting a future superbowl in London.  Let me just go out on a limb and say how dumb of an idea i feel this would be... Football like baseball is supposed to be "America's sport", last i checked the guys across the pond referred to our soccer as football.  Why exactly would we want to host an event in a country where they can't even get the name of the sport right.  I think in London they call NFL football, "American Football" so lets keep it in America.  Call me greedy, but i really don't want to lose another sport to a different country.  In the article linked above they claimed that when football was played in Mexico City in 2005 they drew over 100,000 people to the game.  Just because the event drew so many people does not mean that we should try hosting in other countries as well.  If here in the US our stadiums allowed for more fans to come support their teams, i guarentee they would.  We could create stadiums with less of the luxury boxes and more of the general seating and see crowds of larger than 100,000.  But hey that is the way of corporate american now a days, all they care about is the revenue and they could care less whether or not someone can't attend their games due to outrageous ticket prices.  The real fans are at home watching the games, don't make those of us who can't afford season tickets out to be poor fans, if the NFL got their heads out of their asses, and lowered ticket rates we would show up.  I would like to see how cheap the tickets sold for in Mexico City in 2005, b/c if they sold for as cheap as i think they went for, i would attend the game too.  I'm sure a ticket price of 10 pesos will attract any hispanic to the "largest crowd for NFL football yet".  Keep it up Mr. Roger Goodell and see how far the NFL goes when you start shipping games out of the US.

Online Gambling

Everyone has their own form of entertainment now-a-days, some of us enjoy tv, some play sports, others go for the video games... however there is one last form of entertainment that i feel is particularly growing here in the college world and that is online gambling.  When i was a freshman the cool thing to do was play online poker and it kept me stressed out and kept me up many a nights even to the point where my roommate would be waking up as i was still playing.  Yes i made money, but it definately wasn't worth the stress, now the fun thing for me to do is online sports betting, however i find myself diving in the online casino on the site.  Yes that is fun, but vegas is a lot more entertaining and you know for a fact that it isn't rigged.  My roommate has also found this website enjoyable but flushed all of his profit down playing what else.... poker.  To make matters worse any bet that he had remaining he ensured everyone that it would go to poker and not to more bets, so he definately was "hooked" by bodog and their poker scheme.  Why are these things so damn addictive.  It really can't be the fact that you can win some money b/c when it all boils down you are betting small amounts usually less than 10 dollars and winnings only get to about 20 once in a while.  There just must be something about the risk of betting a few dollars that must keep me hooked.  Hopefully i will never get into the routine of needing to win certain bets to eat, b/c then it would be a problem.  I also hope that no college student falls into that trap where they are spending money that they don't have in hopes of hitting it rich.

Today begins my universities fall break, and man am i excited.  Where else can you "enjoy" 4 days off from class two of which are the weekend, i mean really why not give us a week or something more worth our while.  I could care less about this break as i find myself working everyday of it and will get to enjoy sleeping not a single day.  Working 4 days all for 8.00 an hour, boy that is sure something.
Another thing that has gotten on my nerves today is television news shows.  I can't speak for the local news as i really do not care to get my news from the reporters locally but i am infuriated with how poorly ESPN has been handling stories as of late.  They are reaching so hard for stories that they are reporting on the Yankees all day everyday.  Now i don't care about the yankees one bit being a mets fan, but even if i was a neutral party i would be pissed that i have to watch a whole sportscenter segment about whether or not the yankees will be the same team next year.  Your job as a news network is to cover things happening today, not to dwell on what coaching move will happen next wk or next month or whether Kobe Bryant will be traded sometime in the NBA season.  I just want to hear/see highlights of games that happen today or things regarding up coming games.  Throw viewers a bone and show them new things instead of covering the same stuff everyday!

"Share the Road"

I know that all the signs say that we must share the roads with bikes and i would assume also all forms of motorvehicles.  But what I don't understand is why we should share the road with those that will not follow the rules of the road.  Maybe its just me but has anyone else noticed how bicycle riders all over will run a red light if it appears that no one is coming or ride on the wrong side of the road just so that they can see things better.  Call it trivial but if i were to do the same thing on my motorcycle or in my car i would get a ticket.  The same thing applies to the little 50cc scooters that everyone is buying now that gas is so expensive.  There is not a single scooter i have encountered that will keep up with the speed limit which only causes problems when drivers want to pass them.  They look ridiculous on the road, and drive ridiculous on that same road.  Bikers have this same mentatlity because they will ride in packs perhaps 7 across and take up a whole lane on the road.  We spent the money on the road widening so that they may have their lil bike paths all over the county and for what, they arn't paying the taxes on their "vehicle".  Bottom line is that if they want to enjoy riding on roads created for motor vehicles then all vehicles should pay taxes, i pay taxes on my motorcycle so therefore i ride on the road.  Scooters and bicycles do not pay taxes for their vehicle and therefore are using these roads for free.

Ahh Windows

In the spirit of my most recent battle w/ the windows operating system i think that it is time that i spout off a misc. rant inregards to the operating system used around the world.
I think the thing that probably gets on my nerves the most would be the large amount of computers which are brought to my attention due to user error.  I mean when i load up a computer that supposedly needs to be fixed, and see a desktop littered with random shit that does nothing for the computer but mess it up it is so clear what is the problem.... THE USER!!  Come on people, stop going and getting your "free pop-up blocker" b/c you know what that blocker does, put ad-ware and other stuff to further slow you computer down.  You gain nothing by using this software and couple that wit the tons of free yet non-functioning virus software out there, you just have a recipe for disaster.
My tip to the students out there, is stick the minimum for things that you need.  Don't go get all these enhancements for myspace or aim or even facebook.  They might jazz up your stuff but they really arn't going to do much for the health of your computer.  Please for the love of god, download the free and not just free but working virus software that your school gives you when you first arrive, install it and set it up to where it will update everyday.  This will make you computer happy :)  Also get the hell away from IE and any other microsoft branded internet items.  They are weak and even with IE 7 being released which is supposedly "safer" that safer is still a step or two behind that of firefox or the slew of other browsers out there.  Get mozilla, get adblock and get filter set-g.  Then you can watch all the porn that you want.
I have some sympathy for parents as they are new to this technological world and think that if they install 5 virus programs it is better than 1, and if they download them from a free site that they found off google, you are in luck you just installed a virus that will more than likely slide by those programs and create the need to reformat you computer.
Final words of advice, join the 5-10 percent of mac users out there in the world, with their fancy white or black mac laptops or aluminum imacs and celebrate.  Be free of the windows lifestyle and enjoy things that are just now making a splash in the world of vista.  You will be a lot safer from viruses and spyware and i can assure you that you will have no problem with compatibility because they make programs that will allow you to view the windows created documents and other goodies left from our friend Bill Gates...

Fun thing to do for the day:  Sign up for iGoogle and get the seasonal theme with your zip... You will aquire fun friends to entertain you randomly throughout the day as the time changes. :)

So in case nobody noticed, the Colorado Rockies won the NL wildcard late last night and we all know what that means...  Besides the fact that they will be going to the playoffs, it is time for everyone to get out there Rockies gear that was stored away because of poor performance and wear it proud b/c for once your team is good.  What is with fans these days, they can't represent who their team is unless they are doing well?  Walking around a college campus you definately see your fair share of this, as whenever one of the surrounding universities win a big game (App. State vs. Michigan ring a bell) all of a sudden tons of NCSU students are parading around in their ASU gear.  I just think that if you claim to be a fan of a pro sports or college team you should wear the shirt whenever it comes to the top of the drawer and not just when they win a game.  If everyone at NCSU went with this rule of thumb, there would be one hell of a lot less red and white on campus due to our recent football teams misfortunes.  Be a true fan and support your team whenever you feel like it...

Monday October 1, 2007

As another month gets turned over on the calendar on the wall, i find myself wondering where all the time has gone?  I mean really if i have 24 hours in the day and according to doctors need to spend 8 of those sleeping, where do i really spend the rest of my time.  People often mock routines but today i actually think a routine might be good for myself.  To think how nice it would be to go to bed before 3 am every night which would therefore allow me to wake up in the single digits.  I guess the problem with that is that i would find myself wondering what the hell to do at 8am, i have always thought of that time as either time to work or time to sleep and i love sleep.  With 16 hours of supposed free time during the day and only attending class from 130-415 and eating for maybe 1.5 hours a day i need a hobby for the remaining 12 hours or so.  I know that in the last post i mocked those who didn't change but maybe its time to develop a routine, try to get to bed at a decent time and maybe get my fatass off the couch for the remaining hours of the day.  We will see how it goes and comment on it later.

Why Does My Teacher Hate me?

Wow i can't believe that i just accidently erased my thoughts for the day by clicking the back button once.  I guess to summarize:

  • My HI252 professor feels it is necessary to call me out in class atleast once a day.
  • I am constantly criticized for not being able to repeat back to her what she just said.
I'm really have never encountered such a thing in any of my classes here at NCSU which is why i'm so perplexed at this.  I mean really just because i make a motion to say something to my neighbor, or even open my mouth to utter something i get called upon.  It is always the same thing... "Jeff what did i just say?  or Jeff what do you think about what i just said"  I mean really if my grade wasn't going to be affected i would probably just tell her that i really don't care.  I mean i sit in that class everyday and take
pages upon pages of notes all about what she says.  So why do i get yelled at when i can't
repeat her exact speakings.  I wish that i could go up to her and ask why i get so yelled at so much but i really dont' see the point as she puts herself out there as the teacher who really doesn't care what her students think..  I guess this is one of those occasions when you encoutner a professor that you but heads with, you are forced to deal with it and pray that you can salvage a decent grade.  I just wish it wasn't like that or atleast other students that are talking just as much/if not more than me would also get called out, or how about the studnets that just pack up and leave randomly in class?  I guess the old saying pertains here "when life hands you lemons, make lemonade", sounds like i'll be squeezing a hell of a lot of lemons this semester.

Katrina

Following the MNF game airing last night between the New Orleans Saints and Tennessee Titans, i can't help but comment on the large amount of Katrina references.  Now don't get me wrong, i do care about the region, and feel for everyone that was killed or made homeless from the hurricane, but that was 2 years ago.  Its like the networks and relief groups main reasoning for continuing to discuss Katrina is merely to gain more and more money for the city.  Yes the pictures are still horrific and its very saddening to think that some still have yet to return to the home that they had before the storm, but you have to think that those involved had more than enough time to pack up and leave.  They were given transportation away from the storm, yet most stayed and lost their lives.  You can only sympathize so much for someone stubborn enough to disregard all the warnings given from the weather stations and the government.  Spike Lee seems to be the biggest advocater about Katrina now-a-days, it seems like any comments about people not caring or the government not caring are from him.  This is coming from a guy who was born in Atlanta, GA.  The nation sympathizes with those affected in Katrina but don't you think that it would be time to try not to think about what happen, and focus more on rebuilding.  I really think that if they took a similar approach to that of 9/11 you would see more support for the region.  Remember what happen, but don't dwell.  Try to bring a bigger and better world out of what happen.  Honor those lost and hurt in the storm by moving on.

Monday Sept. 24

In light of recent events taking place down in Texas, i just want to take a few minutes to comment on how astonished i am.  Inmates Escape
I mean really, how can a man who is sentenced for 50 years for two counts of attempted capital murder be declared a low priority inmate?  It doesn't take rocket science to deem that this person is messed up in the head, and just because he has been a good boy and ate his meals and went to bed when the lights get shut off for a few years does not mean that he is a changed man.  Don't get me wrong, i am a firm believer that people can change, but with something as drastic as two counts of attempted murder, i don't really know whether or not you can change...   Now because of a belief than an individual can change, another individuals life is gone and a family is mourning.  The prisoner apparently felt the only way to break out would be to run over a guard instead of going around them.... I really hope that the Wynn unit will take the necessary steps in reducing their overcrowding and have the prisoner executed.  Atleast then they will only be 299 inmates over crowded and maybe that will allow for closer watch of the inmates thus prohibiting them from receiving a "good diciplinary report" after such a short period of time.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Susan Canfield the guard who unfortunately lost her life.

Sports

In this day and age, it is not uncommon for various athletes from all sports to be penalized for cheating.  We have seen the NFL video tape investigation involving the patriots, the Tour De France involving Floyd Landis, and numerous alligations about HGH and steroids in the MLB.  Why of all these incidences are there never any removal of wins from records and stats being thrown out?  In the Tour De France, Landis was accused of cheating with a high level of testosterone and his title was taken away.  Why was the win by the patriots not thrown out, or why have we allowed for those records of the accused in baseball to stand?  I usually do not follow the sport of NASCAR, but in a recent headline, Carl Edwards won this weeks race, and then failed his post-race inspection.  The car was lower than it should on the right side which obviously could have provided Edwards with an unfair advantage.  He will be receiving a fine and a dock in points... but will still be credited with a win.  How is this fair?  Choosing to fine athletes and sports teams does nothing, they have so many sponsors and so much money that it will not matter one bit if a measly fine is thrown their way.  With Belichek and the tape scandal the 1/2 million dollar fine is not going to phase him b/c a) he makes 4.2 million a year and b) the patriots will send him a check for 500,000 as a "bonus" for bring prestige to the franchise.  Until games and titles are taken away there is going to be constant cheating as the penalities are not harsh enough to scare players from cheating.

Saturday Sept. 22

Why is it necessary for anyone to get overly dressed up to attend a collegiate sporting event.  Today while at the noon NCSU football game i fond myself wondering this.  All i ever hear is why can't NCSU be like that school as i watch other games on tv.  The reason is due to the self-absorbed women that come to the game mearly to look pretty.  Last time i checked it is a football game, not a fashion show.  Nobody cares that you found a way to match your cowboy boots and dress, which are neither red nor do they say NCSU.  The only way that we can have a white out or a red out would be if we elminated the females from the game.  If you are going to come and stand around ask stupid questions and sit and not cheer please do not attend.  Be a true fan!

Another observation today was the 7 or 8 year old female that was "slutted out" with cheerleading shorts and shirt.  I mean come on mom do you really want your daughter to turn out like some prostitute on the street corner before she turns 20.  Giving her a cell phone so that she can txt her bff jill is not a good idea, when she is 7 years old. Just because she sees the hip fashion in her teen people magazine does not mean she needs to follow in the trashy footsteps of brittany spears and lindsey lohan.  I'm not saying that you should completely limit your child's life but show them that you love them and for the love of god do not let them wear short cheerleading shorts out in public with nothing to flaunt.  Its gross!

In closing i would just like to thank the Raleigh EMS staff at the NCSU football game today as they kept me from death.  They were considerate enough to pass out FREE yes i said it, free water at the game.  It wasn't even one of those gimics like the free tshirt...when you sign up for the credit card.  I mean really do you think that people are going to waste their time to fill out accurate information just to get a free shirt.  Free water was good, but would have made the game better, if the red howl towels were replaced with nice cold 32oz bottles of water.  They could even contain blue water for Blue Cross Blue Shield, i would not care.  When it is 90 degrees outside the last thing people want is a towel... give us water and make it cold and free.  Not overpriced like the 3.00 you charge for everything.

Tomorrow look for an interesting note regarding the NFL games and any other misc. rants that i might encounter out in this fine world.
