Schattschneider

I agree with what Schattscneider said about the negatives of pluaralism.  If you think about interest groups today, they are dichotomies of each other, each representing one or the other, they normally do no overlap.  The governemnt wouldnt be effective i they used every itnerest groups opinion because they would contradict each other.  too much power is given to interest groups.  Its interesting to see how much governemnt has changed.  Instead of being a government for the people by the people, its really a government for the more powerful groups.  what sucks is once these groups have power its hard to get rid of them

"Scrubs" And War In Iraq

I was watching an episode of "Scurbs" yesterday oct 22 and it was an episode about a wounded soldier being treated.  It pointed out how war can bring people together andplit them apart.  They debated ove whether the war was a just war.  It was an episode that related to everday events and thoughts of everyday people.  It showed a different side of the media and effects of war because it wasn;t typical media broadcasting that we think of.  Normally we think of media as news and scientific information, on MSNBC or The New York Times. This was a television show, a comedy no less.  you could see the different sides and opinions and ever now and then you could hear bits of factualy information and actual theories of why we are at war.  It was a very interesting episode.  I've been watching 'Scrubs' for a long time now and i never thought they would have an episode about something serious.

The Brickyard

I know this is really old but i typed it up before creating a blog but irecieved an email from a friend and i thought it had a lot to do with what we were discussing in class about the hypothetical situation given and the "wierd guys" we were talking about.  It was sent the 13th concerning the events of the 14th in the brickyard.  i dont know if any of this actualyl happened because i dont have classes on fridays so i did not go to the brickyard but there were supposed to be protests by evangelists and the email warned about not messing with them because there were undercover police officers.  we were talking about freedom of expression and the email said that if anyone ripped down their signs and posters, it was illegal and the police would be notified and i thought this was interesting.  if anyone actually saw them i would be interested to see how things panned out. i read the articles in the paper but i was jsut curious about whether anyone in our class had any personal experiences Posted by fmmiller ( Oct 01 2007, 12:29:34 AM EDT ) Permalink Comments [1]
