Week 4: Space/Place Blog Teaser for Presentation
As a potential teaser for next week's presentation on Space/Place (and to continue Dan's tradition with "Lost in Translation,") here are some connections I hope to make:
-GPS as a cultural interface embodying the difference between our former, boundary-grid driven concept of Place/Maps and our current more dynamic experience of space/place/flows
-Movie: American Psycho-- satirizing the idea of people as place nodes and homogenizing of the elite in confusion of identities and several shades of off-white business cards
-Book: Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five, Billy Pilgrim (unstuck in time. . . and place?) illustrating several concepts about place, social construction, postmodernism, glocality (?)
