Revision

Bernard Malamud says, “Revision is one of the exquisite pleasures of writing”. Personally, I would not describe revision like that. After I finish a paper I do not like to go back to it. You try your hardest and you’re feeling pretty good about your work. Then, boom, it hits you that there are all these problems with it. Frustration kicks in and your thinking, how can I do any better, I thought this was my best! I prefer others tell me how to fix my paper because when I try to do it on my own I am really lazy. I always think to myself, does it really matter? On the positive side, at least when you revise your paper you have something to work with. You don’t have to come up with completely new ideas like you do on your first draft. Also, when I revise my papers I just keep telling myself that the end is near.

Revision

“Revision is one of the exquisite pleasures of writing,” says Bernard Malamud.  I don’t exactly think that revision is very pleasurable, but it certainly is useful.  It enables you to change as much of the final product as needed.  There are some pleasures of writing, but they are more along the lines of being able to express yourself through your work.

Revision

I think that revision is a major element of writing and plays a huge part in the writing process, but I don’t think that the author of this quote was being serious about revision being a pleasure, because even for a full time writer, I would think that revision is annoying and a hassle. I think that Malamud was just being sarcastic about it.

For me, I really hate revision because it takes a very long time and is tedious, and I dislike going back and re-reading and reorganizing that essay, but in the end, its what separates a good paper from a bad one.

Revision

I do not find revision pleasurable, it is actually very frustrating sometimes. Although it is not the most interesting part of writing, it is one of those necessary tasks than need to be done. It can be time consuming, and often times I end up totally reorganizing and rewording majority of my paper, but in the end the product is better and the time put in to revision is worth it.

Bernard Malamud

Bernard Malamud got it right with this quote, “Revision is one of the exquisite pleasures of writing.” Oh man I love revising papers let me tell you. I’m not sure there is anything I would rather be doing today in English. It’s just such a joy and ultimately brightens my day. NOT!

revision

I don’t know about everyone else but my favorite part of writing is when I finish. To me the real exquisite pleasure of writing is when you have been working on a paper for a while or have stayed up real late writing a paper and then you finish. I do have to admit that I would rather revise one of my papers or someone else’s instead of writing a new one. I guess revision is not too bad because then your paper gets better and then you get a better grade which makes you happy in the end.

Revision

I believe that revision is a great pleasure of writing. Unlike speaking, you can’t always change what you have just said, but in writing, you are allowed to change your words and make what you are saying better. It is great to be able to go back and think about writing in order to make your paper better. Revision is great because you can always keep going back to improve your work.

Revision

I believe revision can be a pleasure of writing when you enjoy the writing topic or assignment. Revision is good because you already have something to work with instead of starting from scratch. I don’t think revising is one of my pleasures for this particular assignment but it needs to be done.

Revision

For me, revision is NOT one of the exquisite pleasures of writing.  Revision does help my writing; however, it is not pleasurable.  It reminds me of how much more work I have to do before I turn it in for the final draft.  Revising papers takes more work than actually writing them.  Also, after one revision I feel like I need one more and then another one because not all the mistakes are gone.  I feel like my paper can improve with every revision so I have to always make TONS of revisions.  Therefore, revision is NOT one of the exquisite pleasures of writing.

REVISION Good or Bad?

Revising is probably one of the most exquisite pleasures in the sense that the bulk of the business is done. Other than that I can’t really find any “pleasure” in revision. I always am debating within myself trying to find what I should do and shouldn’t do. Then I start second guessing whether or not I should have changed this and whether or not I should have changed that. But I guess revision in the big picture is a good thing because your nearing the finish line.

Revision

I feel that revision is not a pleasure, it can really be a pain sometimes, but it's just one of those things that has to be done. Although it is not the most interesting part of writing it can be very helpful in clarifying and organizing information and the points you are trying to make. Many times in revision I find that most of my work does not make sense or flow well so I tend to spend a lot of time reworking the organization of my paper, and although it is frustrating and unpleasant, it is very helpful in writing a good paper.

"Revision"

I think that revision is like homework given over Thanksgiving break. It's something everyone dreads and despises, but nothing can be done about it. Revision is a way of helping ourselves, so it is needed. Revision is not "the exquisite pleasures of writing", I do not like to revise but it lets me know that I do not have much more work to do.

Response to the Quote

I think that I can agree with Malamud in that when we get the chance for revision we can often make out work better, when it comes to writing papers for english. But when it comes to truly good writing, like poets and authors, I think that there is plenty of room for imperfections. A writers raw material before it is touched by editors and read by critics could quite possibly be the best draft simply because that was the authors first thought, their original idea. But I am thankful that we get the chance for revision when it comes to this class as well as other classes that require a lot of writing.

Quote on Revision

"Revision is one of the exquisite pleasures of writing"                                   To me, this quote signifies the fact that the opportunity to revise your paper is one that should be taken advantage of. Revision gives you a chance to improve certain parts of your paper, including the content, grammar, etc. Revision is the final stage of writing a paper, and although it takes just as long as writing the rough draft, it makes your paper more effective.

Revision

I like the quote by Bernard Malamud, because its some what true.  Revising a piece of writing is a good thing, because it helps to make the writing better.  At the same time, revising can be the worst part of writing.  I would not exactly call revision an exquisite pleasure.  I don't find pleasure in revising, maybe that's because I'm not a big fan of doing it.
