I guess writers improve slowly, learning from their mistakes and getting better as they go along, so that it’s hard for them to realize that they have come to great accomplishments, because to them, it doesn’t seem like anything changed. But I think that writers are born with the gift of writing, so you can tell that they have potential from an early stage. I think my writing has slightly improved in the past few years, but I think it’s difficult for me to adjust to the different types of writing, especially since I almost exclusively enjoy creative writing. I hope that over time I’ll get used to writing in different styles, and I think this course helped a lot with this. Posted at 09:30AM Nov 11, 2008 by Mohammad Moussa in General | Comments[4] P.G. I do believe I have grown as a writer this semester, considering the nature of the assignments. The papers we’ve written this semester have all been new experiences for me. Some times when I’m writing I surprise myself with my language use, vocabulary, and sentence structure. I’ve never been a fan of writing but I have improved in some of those areas. I do believe writing takes practice and good writing will eventually follow. Posted at 09:24AM Nov 11, 2008 by Clarissa Darice Beaty in General | success as a writer I agree with this quote. I think people are constantly becoming better writers but they don't realize it at first. Once a person looks back at how their writing has changed they will be supirsed to see how much they have gotten better. Posted at 09:22AM Nov 11, 2008 by Sarah Joyce Holzer in General | P.G. I agree with this quote by P.G. Wodehouse. I feel as though writing is an acquired skill that does not come to someone overnight, but rather gradually and with more experience. With each paper written, I have learned more about comparing articles, analyzing texts and formulating my own opinion while still holding on to those of the author. Before you know it, it is the 5th paper and your writing style has improved immensely. It was such a gradual improvement that you do not even realize how far you have come until you look back on your first paper and compare it to your most recent work. I really like this quote and I find it to be very valid. I know through my own experience, I find by looking back over my old papers and such it amazes me how terrible I used to be at writing. I am not saying I’m the greatest writer ever, but over the years many aspects of my writing have greatly improved, especially my grammar and vocabulary. The one thing I can say has not improved a good amount over the years is my spelling, but that is what I have spell check for! I agree with this. I was thinking the other day that there is no way I could have survived this many papers in high school in this short of a length of time. Also my grades have went from a 79 to 80 to 89 so I assuming I’m getting betting with time. So to say “success comes to me so gradually that it is always a shock to me to look back and realize the heights to which I have climb” is definitely appropriate in my case because I feel I have made a ton of progress considering the short amount of time I’ve been here. I feel I have developed not into a good writer but a much much much much better one. jp Posted at 09:20AM Nov 11, 2008 by Jordan M. Penley in General | PG Wodehouse quote
I agree with the quote because I have looked back on my old writings even from elementary school and realized how far I have progressed. I also agree that it takes time to develop as a good writer because one must reach a level of maturity and higher thinking in order to achieve a status of a good writer. It is interesting to see the simple mistakes I have made back in the past, but now I can reflect on them and become even better. Posted at 09:19AM Nov 11, 2008 by Eugene Stranch in General | |
