Reply to P.G. Wodehouse

For some reason, the system won't let me post my reply to the entry, so here goes:

I agree with this comment.  Writers improve slowly, and it is not evident to us how much we have grown until we look back on our past work.  Recently, I happened to come across my old writing portfolio from the 8th grade.  My teacher gave me so much positive feedback about my writing and gave me a 100% on the entire assignment.  However, when I was reading over my portfolio, I had to laugh. The language I used and my sentence structure could be much better. It is amazing how much we grow and change until we take the time out to reflect on past work.

I agree with the statement made that "writers are born with the gift of writing".  You can try and teach someone to write, but someone who is  truly a gifted writer does not necessarily need as much direction.
