Campus Sustainability Day
North Carolina State University will celebrate Campus Sustainability Day on Wednesday October 21 with several events on the Brickyard. The focus of the day will be ‘Reduce Your Paw Print.’
From 10:00 – 2:00 pm student groups and departments from across campus will give examples of how they reduce their paw print, as well as provide information about how the campus community can lessen their impact.
In addition, the University Sustainability Office, in coordination with the Office of Energy Management and Waste Reduction & Recycling will present a tire pressure demonstration. The first 500 participants will receive a free tire gauge. Attendees will learn how to properly inflate tires on their bike, motorcycle, car or truck.
David Dean, outreach and communications coordinator for the University Sustainability Office said, “having your tires properly inflated reduces the money you spend on gas and your vehicle’s impact on the environment.”
According to a recent study by the University of California, properly inflated tires use roughly 20% less fuel. Mr. Dean continued that the tire pressure demonstration is being held to, “help educate our campus and make people aware of the importance of checking your tire pressure on a regular basis.”
Other happenings on the Brickyard October 21 include the Campus Farmer’s Market and the Know Your Numbers bodily health awareness event.
The University Sustainability Office will also be releasing the Annual Sustainability Report. The 2008-2009 Annual Sustainability Report is a snapshot of the work North Carolina State University has done over the past year towards a more sustainable future.
