"It is always difficult to improve perfection!!!"

Here are some chores which can help in managing day to day stress.

1. Always take time for yourself, at least 30 minutes per day.

2. Be aware of your own Stress-Meter...know when to step back and cool down.

3. Concentrate on controlling your own situation, before trying to control someone else's.

4. Daily exercise can burn your stress chemicals and make you stress free.

5. Eat lots of fresh fruits, veggies, bread and also drink lot of water. This will give your body all that contributes for its best performance.

6. Forgive others...Don't hold grudges and be tolerant...Not everyone is as capable as you are..

7. Hugs, Kisses and Laughter...Have fun and don't be afraid to share your feelings with others.

8. Judge your performance realistically....Don't set your goals out of your own reach.

9. Keep a positive attitude...It will enhance your desire to take new tasks and help accomplishing them.

10. Limit Alcohol, Drugs and other stimulants...They affect your perception and behaviour.

11. Relationships-- Nurture and Enjoy them, learn to listen more and talk less.

12. Play your favorite music rather than watching a television show.

13. Out-Door Activities with your friends or family can be a great way to relax.

14. "NO"....is  a word, one has to use without feeling guilty.

15. Treat yourself with massage, dinner or movies once a week.

16. Try to understand things from other person's point of view.

17. Verify information from source before exploding.

18. Don't worry much about others or even yourself....It won't help completing tasks quicker or better.

19. Make plans for your future trips and set some goals to visit your dream trip.

20. Each day is a gift by God....Smile and be thankful that you are a part of the bigger picture.

Thank you dad...for great tips.

I know its difficult to digest when professor writes on board that 0!(zero factorial) is 1 and not zero.

I mean definition of factorial states that n!= n(n-1)(n-2)......2*1.

So we would always think that 0! should be zero and not 1....But lets see the following simple rearrangement of terms to digest the proof that zero factorial is  1.

We know from the factorial definition that :

n!= n*(n-1)*(n-2)*......2*1.

We can also write the above R.H.S as

n! = n*(n-1)!

Now we divide L.H.S and R.H.S by n...so we get

n!/n = (n-1)! which can also be written as (n-1)! = n!/n

Now if we plug in n=1 in the above equation.. we get

(1-1)! = 1!/1....so

0! = 1

This was one of my greatest experience.

I am taking Computer Science 116 class this semester...and often go to the tutorial center for help. There is an old guy at tutorial center who always helps me with programming problems...The ease with which he solves all the problems...I always thought he is a Professor...because he seems quite old....in 70's...However I was greatly surprised to know from him today that he is a TA and he himself is a student. He is taking Computer 216 class right now, which I am going to take next semester...Nothing can be more inspiring than this for me. He also took EC 205 and aced it....I am taking all those courses this semester.

He worked at IBM for 30 years and is retired right now. His wife is still working as a teacher and he said.."I had nothing to do at home, and so I started my education again to keep myself busy."..He had done C ,C++ and some other old programming language in his college but not java. So he is back to college to learn new courses. I will never forget this day...and I really thank him that he truly justified the quote which I always had at back of my mind..."Education & Success is not a destination....but a journey."

You have to want it. This is the most important step. If a 4.0 is your number one priority, you will get it. This means you will be ready to make sacrifices like going out with friends, keeping up with your favorite tv shows, and sometimes sleep.

Show up for class for the first few days. If attendance is part of the grade always show up. You should attend class regularly regardless if attendance is required. However, if a class has no required attendance and is straight from the book, I would recommend skipping it, and learning the information independently. An hour spent learning the information may be better spent.

Remember that studying is similar to working out--it's done best in shorter periods regularly. This means study consistently (it may be daily) and don't crash study. Learning to study for long periods of time is an important skill as well. It may be hard or impossible at first, but it can be mastered.

Make college your priority. Only go out when you don't have work to do. Which will likely be never.

Get organized-make sure that you know when tests are and exactly what you have to study.

Having a full-time job may keep you on track and make sure NO time is wasted. However, if you are at a point where you are not sleeping regularly, a job may be a good thing to cut out. I recommend finding a job where you can study like university library or secretary position.

Take a full course load but level it out. Take a hard class or two with two easy classes. Don't take chemistry, calculus, zoology and trig all in the same semester. Be careful of the tricky 1 or 2 credit courses. They can be very time consuming, even more so than a 3 or 4 credit class. Sometimes, you will have to take a full course (generally after higher level major classes have started and gen eds have ended), and a study schedule becomes critical.

And lastly remember why you are in college. You are there to learn so don't moan about going to class -- see it as an opportunity to improve yourself. Take pride in your commitment to your studies. However, do not neglect the fact that you will become depressed and have no friends if all you ever do is study. Staying sane is half the battle, and having friends should remain a priority.

I hope to follow and maintain the same.

I know many of students are in search of job or they were during this fall semester. I have had the same experience during my first semester. I didn't get any job during my first semester but I am having a job right now in my second semester on campus.

Things to take care while applying for on campus job :

1. Apply for jobs during the end of a semester...If you apply it during the beginning, your application form will be lying somewhere in a deserted place. I know campus people are looking for employees for coming semester as many of their current employees are in the verge of graduating...So end of semster is a really good time for applying for a job...

2. Don't give away your application form to the person who is also a student and working there. There are chances of it getting misplaced. Go to the top person may be..supervisor or assistant director...who is actually in charge of hiring...Talk to them about your experience here at State and also give your resume to them.

3. Always back up with an email to the supervisor...Contact them through email if you don't here from them...This will keep your status updated and they would know that you are really interested in getting the job. Even if you don't get that job...email them to contact you if they need someone during middle of the semester. I know there are cases where in people leave jobs in middle of semester as they cannot mange study+work and at this time they are looking to hire new people.

4. Try to get email addresses of Hiring person(person handling that particular area e.g supervisor of gym.) from "find people" tab at www.ncsu.edu and ask them about application form give out dates.

I have written all this from my personal experience and I hope it helps you too.

So...this particular section is regarding the public laptops(apple and IBM) given at D.H Hill library for use in Library.

I know..its really convenient to go to library without heavy laptops and getting one from there....I was tempted to write on this topic to aware users regarding SECURITY for their private data and unity accounts on public laptops.

I am  a regular user of library laptops and issue now and then. Last week when I issued a mac-book , I found something strange. As soon as I turned the screen on, about four to five tabs poped up. The previous user had not closed them. To my surprise I found that his facebook account, att cellphone bill summary, paypal account and his yahoo account, everything was signed in. This is extremely risky...If you have your accounts like pay-pal open, you basically have your bank account open to public!!! Even keeping the facebook account open like this can ruin your social status on facebook or other accounts if they are open like this. If it comes into wrong hands, he/she can update your status(which you don't want) and can send fake messages to your friends. I came across such "opened account" laptops twice during last week and am pretty sure others might have experienced it too.

How to prevent this from happening.

1. Use fire-fox Mozilla (mac or windows) while browsing...They have it on all the library laptops and its safer than Internet Explorer or Safari.

2. After you are done with your work...go to TOOLS -- > DELETE BROWSING HISTORY -- > check mark COOKIES and press ERASE....This will erase all your saved passwords and also will log out all the opened accounts.

3. You are not done yet....After completing the DELETE BROWSING HISTORY task...go to FILE-- > LOG OUT MAC LAP( FOR MAC USERS) AND START-- > LOG OUT ( FOR WINDOWS USERS). . . Once this is done...select the SLEEP tab and than return the laptop back...

Believe me ...this is the safest way to use public laptops...

I hope this helped you....Happy Computing.

Hello...

I would like to describe my "learning Java" experience in second Freshman Semester at State. It is in-fact my initial step towards my majors i.e Computer Science. I am currently taking CSC 116 class which is "Introduction to Computer Science" where in you are introduced to basics of programming language. The first day of class, I thought this class would be a piece of cake. However, as I advanced through the course, it became more and more complex for me. There are eight projects, 2 exams and a final in this course. I found this class hard because it was the first time I was taking a computer language course. At one point I even thought of changing my majors and switching it to some non programming major like chemical or nuclear engineering. The problem was- I was not able to construct a program on my own...even though I read chapters from text-book and notes. I was getting pissed..ya pissed!!! However, I got a really good advice from one of my relatives who had the same majors , regarding how to study for Computer Science. I was concentrating more on Text-Book rather than practical approach of trial and error(writing programs on text-pad editor and compiling it.) This really worked !!! I am enjoying writing new programs & compiling it. I got one thing from this class..... Computer Programming is all about trying your code practically and compiling it....Text book is simply a guide to initialize your code., everyting else depends on your LOGIC!

This title may seem weird at first glance but it in-fact is true for me. My Life equation is not balanced right now...as far as I can see!!! It seems there are problems with my variable selection. There was a time when I thought to convert one of the variable into constant but than I realized that the variable was already occupied into another equation, and converting into constant or rather trying it to convert into constant will screw both the equations.  I never knew that one damn variable can screw up the entire equation. But good news is, I have thought of modifying the equation in a way that I can get rid of that hampering variable. Wish me good luck for my new Equation with a hopefully new variable in it!!!

I will be out shortly with the whole equation as soon as I am done with it!!!

SORRY FOR CONFUSING YOU !!!!!

Now..I know it ain't no new word for a college going kid. Frankly speaking...I wasn't aware of this word until I came to college...Ya you can blame my poor English for that!!! I was tempted to write on this topic with respect to an incident which occurred yesterday. I was at the library at 2:30 A.M and saw one of my friends. He was playing "Call Of Duty" and said he did this just because he is not able to go to sleep and it didn't matter to him as he had his first class at 3:00 P.M next day. He said he was INSOMNIAC...Just because you don't have an early class in the morning, you stay up late at night or rather morning and go on saying that you are insomniac. It ain't like that, because if a person is insomniac, he would at-least try to go to sleep.

Let me tell you something about me. When I was in my freshman semester I used to go to bed at 11:00 P.M everyday. But now as my work load has increased and I take night shifts in work, sleeping cycle has changed. I take naps in the afternoon which keeps me awake at night so that I can study and work....Now I cannot be called insomniac ..because its just a change of sleep cycle. Even I thought that I was "turning insomniac" when I first noticed myself staying up so late...but than did a bit of research and was satisfied. So to all my folks who think just like I thought (turning Insomniac)...don't worry because its just another COLLEGE SYMPTOM!!!!

It is very difficult to understand that its not the outer beauty that matters all time.

Red Lips, Attractive looks, Sharp features are enough to attract one's attention but thats just time being. Nothing is permanent. The real beauty lies in one's thinking and the way he/she treats others. Thats permanent and that is what matters. Looks matter to a certain extent which may help one in setting up the first impression, but than its one's thinking that would lead  to success. There may be very few who can really understand and implement this. Never get fascinated by one's outerlook as it might be just a disguise for yet another trap. It is really good to appreciate beauty by words but never get attracted to one just because of the looks.

I decided to conduct a small experiment one month ago. It is called " The Facebook experiment ". Following are the details.

I was a regular user of facebook one month ago. I used to visit it 5-6 times daily and stay there for quite a while. I got more and more addicted to that thing day by day. I am sure many of you might be doing the same. I started using the Chat thing on facebook and spent more than 2 hours(sometimes) chatting at night. It was surely a distraction during my study time. I even spent my time looking at others profile and pictures which I think is not apprpriate. I was a regular status updater on fb and used to get back on it to check the comments.

The main aim to join fb was socializing...but this was way more than that...kind of over-socializing . I decided to stay off from it for one month and see the results. They were quite positive- I was able to focus more on my studies. I spent no more time in thinking about others, which I did previously when I was addicted to fb.

There is nothing wrong in using fb, but I think the problem lies in its MISUSE. Adding people as friends whom you never knew and spending hours gossiping with them, is such a waste of time. I am happy that I realised all this soon and was successful in my experiment . I am back on fb after a month, and everything still seems the same, except that I am no more addicted to it and no more a frequent user.

So here I was prepared and ready to give my Test 3 for Calculus 2 class. It was about homogeneous and non homogeneous second order differential equation, series, sequence and some logistic equations. I was in my class waiting for my professor to give out the test question papers. She gives it out as soon as the clock ticks 9:10. I reviewed the paper in short and everything looked fine. I was done with first 4 problems in 30 minutes. The next three didn't look bad and I was quiet positive to complete them in remaining 20 minutes. A strange thing than happens. Suddenly the guy who sits next to me spills his Coke glass all over the table. Everything gets wet. My answer book was partially wet and my pants were wet. It was at this time I lost my concentration as my GREY cells were diverted to my wet pants. I was not able to solve two problems of the remaining three problems. I don't blame anyone for this as nobody can control what is going to happen next. One thing to learn from this incident is - "No matter how prepared you are, you cannot stop disturbance in disguise."

Life has changed completely from what it was last semester and what it is now.

Really, the first semester was piece of cake. One should learn from my mistake- Never take all core courses in a single semester & even if you are excited to work on campus , dont work for maximum hours especially on Friday Nights. I see all my friends going out on Friday night and listen their excited voices on phone while I am on my working desk at 2 in the morning.

One more thing what I've learned from my second semester is that, never be afraid of taking a totally new subject. It happened with me. I was introduced to Java, which was totally new for me. For the first couple of weeks, when I went to the class, I always felt to drop that class. However, as I started visiting the tutorial centre for Java and started working out the projects, I started liking the class. Same thing in economics except my professor , who is really really bad in teaching economics. I don't know why NC State has appointed her as a professor for such an important basic class EC 205.

Now waiting for Thanks-Giving...so that I can go back to my home town Atlanta and relax there in calm and serene atmosphere away from hustle of studies, worries and work.

Wish you all A Happy ThanksGiving in Advance.
