If you've never been to Fort
Lauderdale, you are missing out on one of the most enjoyable experiences you
will ever have in a city, bar none. I went to Fort Lauderdale recently to meet
some friends for a week-long trip that turned out to be a much-needed break
from all the running around I usually do around campus. Granted, this was no
spring break, but visiting Fort Lauderdale gave me some things to consider as I
make my plans for future trips.
A girlfriend of mine suggested getting
away because we were all stressed out from finals. Before going to Fort
Lauderdale, my friends and I looked up some rates online. We wanted to make
sure that we weren't in over our heads and that it would turn out to be too
expensive for us. We were surprised to learn that there are some great rates on Fort Lauderdale vacation rentals throughout the area. Not just hotel rooms,
either. I'm talking about vacation homes,
with kitchen and bedrooms and a living room and a pool. Very nice! We were
eight girls in all, and the house turned out to be the best value for our
money. Can you imagine what it would have cost for us to get two or more hotel
rooms? Even more than that, can you imagine how uncomfortable we would have all
been, squeezed into hotel rooms, sleeping on the floor and stepping over each
other? The vacation home turned out to be awesome! For a fraction of the money we
would have spent at a hotel, we stayed in lodging that really felt like a home
away from home.
Now, before getting there I knew that
Fort Lauderdale was nice, but I had no idea that there was so much to do there!
Immediately one thinks beaches, water, sand, surf - but there is so much more
there that meets the eye. Check out the Riverwalk Arts and Entertainment
District in downtown Fort Lauderdale, where you will find the Museum of
Discovery and Science, the Stranahan House, the Museum of Art and Old Fort Lauderdale,
among the many attractions. Go to Butterfly World, an impressive, one-of-a-kind
butterfly garden located in nearby Coconut Creek. Ride the world's oldest
wooden roller coaster if you dare, or snorkel along the reefs of Fort Lauderdale
beaches.
By the time we came home we were
convinced that we made the right call in choosing Fort Lauderdale for our
little retreat. Think about Fort Lauderdale when you want to get away for a bit
and recharge.
