Several news organizations have reported on a peer-reviewed research study published in the journal Human Factors shows that driving while talking on the cell phone impairs your driving as much as driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.08 (legally impaired). They also documented that there was no difference between hands-free and hand-held phones.
